Plastic Barricades – How Goldfish Grow – Single Review

Review by Tom Coombs

A little teaser before the big even we had a listen to these winners of a few competitions including Camden’s Battle of the Bands in 2014. The North West London threesome plus one of Dan Kert on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Daniele Borgato on bass and Frazer Webster on drums. The plus one is Jonas Svendsen who recorded lead guitars for "How Goldfish Grow".  And I am unsure why they are not hitting in big.

I am a big on sound, not in general as in I want the sound to be perfect, I want a band or musician to make sure what they want is put across and Plastic Barricades have created an amazing sound.  The fast paced funky beats and cheeky guitar magic in hooks is inspiring, like a jam session that just happened to create a great track.

Indie rock has always had a place in the heart of the UK music scene in all areas and of late it is starting to pull its way back to the top after a bit of crash over the last few years with more dance and grime coming to the front once more but indie will be back before you know it.  And Plastic Barricades will be at the forefront of the charge if they continue make hits like ‘How Goldfish Grow’.  They have a southern Arctic Monkeys vocal style in versus but then can pull out a stronger sound in the chorus.

Now I have to go back to the hook in this song. About 2:45 in, I loved it, the funk carries on and the guitar effects come in and shake it all up before a huge smash and grab lead mash up.  There is not enough all out sections these days so this was awesome.  This is my first site of the band and I have a feeling it won’t be the last especially with the album coming real soon. (we are reviewing as this is posted).

5 Stars – Indie Rock is back and to keep others away all we need is Plastic Barricades.
